Our story

Empello was founded in 2012. Jeremy Flynn and Gavin Dent – ex Heads of VAS at Vodafone UK and T-Mobile UK – decided to develop technology to help VAS providers to manage regulatory risk. They were joined by technologist John Derham and the three created Empello.

Shortly afterwards Vodafone UK tendered for a supplier to monitor VAS advertising to ensure compliance with the rules. We won the tender and the original mission was adapted to focus on managing regulatory risk from advertising at a time when high-risk affiliate marketing was burgeoning. Merchants in the UK then approached us to also help them manage affiliate risk.

Internationalisation started a couple of years later, with the interesting choice of Australia. Once a scalable infrastructure had been developed to manage technology remotely, Empello added more markets very quickly. Now, although the mix of countries has changed, we offer FraudScan monitoring services in 30 countries across 4 continents. Our approach is to have native language speakers for every country in which we operate. The Empello team is very diverse, with a total of 20 languages spoken.

To offer the best service possible, we have added offices and people in UAE and Brazil. For a larger number of operational hours, we also have a team of 25 in Asia operating 6 hours ahead of Europe.

3 years ago we decided to broaden our offering. We started to see VAS payment pages being manipulated to achieve auto-subscriptions. FraudStop was launched as a software solution to block these auto-subscriptions which in 2020 and 2021 predominately comes from in-app malware.

So now Empello offers solutions to deal with visible advertising fraud and invisible payment page fraud. We are proudly independent of any other party in the value-chain and totally focused on trying to help achieve a stable sustainable VAS market.

We love working here.
